Outfit of the day : My Zalando shopping spree

10 Jul

Dear readers,

It’s been pretty quiet at FlemishFashionFreaks’ headquarters recently shopping-wise, as I am still looking for a new job, which implies trying not to go crazy in the shopping department for the last 6 months (quite a challenge as you can surely imagine).

But as sales were fastly approaching, I decided to give in to the urge just for once and visit Zalando for some online madness… And mad it was! So many different brands means many MANY hours spent behind this very computer to decide which outfit I wanted to promote to my absolute favorite summer outfit.

I instantly fell in love with a beautiful Grecian-inspired chiffon dress (shop here) from the brand Louche which was a novelty to me. Keeping an eye on the brand in the future as they had many fashionable items to my liking.

Next I searched for a cool pair of sandals to match the dress… Luckily for me (and my big shoe size 42) Zalando has many available options for us ‘plus sized’ girls. My heart skipped a beat when I found this floral pair of Anna Field sandals with white and green tones (find them via this link). They fit perfectly and are a dream to walk on… That’s why I decided to post-order the same item in blue so I can change accordingly to my outfit of the day.

I’m not a big fan of jewellry as I’m always getting stuck to everything with them (can you believe I never even had my ears pierced for this exact reason?!) but every now and then I like to brighten up a simple dress or top with a cool statement necklace, often with a referral to animals.  The leopard necklace from Me& Zena fit the description perfectly and was a sure winner to complete my easy-going summer look.

Do you like my new summer outfit? What is your ideal outfit for the summer?

Outfitpost – Out for dinner

23 May

Hi there!

Today I was lucky enough to have a day off from work:so I visited the stocksales from Protest and Lila Grace, basked a bit (okay, to be honest : a LOT) in the sun and had a lovely dinner with my boyfriend, mother and stepfamily at Karveel in Antwerp. Good times!

With the high temperatures I opted for a Grecian inspired short black  blue dress from ASOS teamed up with a green blazer from Forever 21 and studded grey leather heels (Rieker). The woven blue leather clutch is from Pieces Accessories.

The nailpolish is YSL – Les Fauves in black & gold

OUTFITPOST – Blue skies

20 May

Dear readers,

We are finally getting the temperatures and weather we have been longing for this weekend!

It was a perfect timing as we wanted to visit a local airshow to check out the SpittFire and other big roaring machines most men usually like… Mine is no exception to this! 😀

Me personally? I was just happy that it is finally time to take those poor neglected summer shoes out of the box again, yay !

By consequence it was also time to choose a nailpolish for my feet as they were about to feel the breeze again after waaaaaay too long. YSL Les Fauves came to the rescue! Just love it how the gold base nailpolish shimmers through the black texture coat on top of it… Pure magic! This YSL nailpolish is also an excellent combination with my black suede Pedro Garcia sandals with little gemstones, as the footbed is also in gold which enhances the textured black/gold effect.

Since I was not sure the weather would stay as good for the entire day, I opted for a ‘safe’ royal blue skinny jeans from ONLY, these babies have been mine already for more tha 4 years but they still do the trick!

The top with sparkly padded shoulders is from H&M ( the yellow leather bag is H&M too), the owl ecklace I scored at Mango. My blue studded belt is from Talking French at Maasmechelen Village. The printed scarf is from Pieces.

What are you wearing on this beautiful day?

With love, Nona

OUTFITPOST – That 70’s Show

3 May

Lately I have been feeling very boho-minded, so I dug up my favourite pair of flared jeans out of the dressing & put it back in rotation.

Combining it with an effortlessly chic green blazer from River Island and a colourpop floral top from Vero Moda, this is the perfect outfit for a day of work, if you are also going out for dinner & drinks with your friends afterwards.

Blazer – River Island / Top – Vero Moda / Jeans – ONLY / Bracelets – Pieces & Accessorize / Necklace – Pieces / Shoes – Vulcan

Dear readers,

Maasmechelen Village invited me last week to come discover their new collections as they are currently organizing a special campaign , called Art of the Detail. You can read all about it in my previous post.

They asked me to look for my perfect accessory for this season and boy, it didn’t take me long to find it!

Actually (typically me), I opted for 2 accessories which can be worn perfectly together. At Fossil, I found this to-die-for green leather satchel, which is a style you never can go wrong with if you ask me. The army green colour can be combined with many pop colours and over the top prints, so I may count this baby as a good asset to my current wardrobe.

The other accessory which immediately stole my heart is a thin studded belt in tan leather from Talking French… I heart it so much that I decided to also buy the belt in blue… With those outlet prices, I didn’t even think twice about it.

To put the look together I decided I also needed a new dress to combine the accessories with (well, I didn’t really need it, you know, but when a girl is on a roll…). This new baby comes from Talking French aswell,  love the print and colour combo. Trans-seasonal dress : check!

I had some fun today with the boyfriend and went on our very first ‘location shoot’ (sounds fancy if you say it like that, better than I walked down the street to the tunnel, ha). Below you can see the result.

Jacket – Object C.I./ Dress – Talking French/ Belt – Talking French/ Leather bag – Fossil/ Sunglasses – adidas Originals Eyewear/ Boots – Sacha

The pearly nailpolish is from Rituals new ‘Urban Chic’ make-up range, I really love the way it sparkles in the sun! It is also very easy to apply and comes at a reasonable price, a win-win situation!

Do you like the new accessories? What is your must-have accessory this season?

With love, Nona

Outfit post – SPRING TIME

14 Apr

Dear readers,

it’s so good to be back on the blog after our winter hibernation, which was primarily caused by my new busy job I started last Fall and an unfortunate illness which struck me down for about a month.

But -just as the first flowers start to blossom and the birds start to sing- I thought it was time to present you with some brand new outfit posts  & exciting new seasonal previews again, starting from today.

I personally always get a sort of subconcious need to buy new shoes when I spot the first signs of spring… The (shopping) result? Already 3 pairs of new summer shoes in the last month (mostly wedges, this really is a must-have this season, comfortable and elegant all at once). … Probably this is not the end of my spring madness, as the highsummer collections are still to hit the shops in a few weeks.. Uhhh owwww!

For pictures of the new shoes you’ll still have to have a bit of patience (Yes, I know, I am such a tease), but I do have something else to show you : my brand new haircut and colour !

Parka – ONLY / Printed blouse – Steps / Mint green tracktop – H&M / Blue skinny – ONLY / Clutch – Pieces / Fascinator hairband – Accessorize / Ballerinas – Diesel

Nail colours (fromleft to right) :

Rimmel – Blue my mind / Estée Lauder – C6 Fuchsia / O.P.I. – Green -wich Village / Rimmel – Sky High / O.P.I. – Need Sunglasses?

I decided to loose about 10 to 15 cms of my hair, as I thought the time was right for a shorter more edgy look. The hair colour is a very bright copper tint, normally the colour is a bit more dark.

The flip side of the new colour is that I now look a bit paler than I was before, but the first serious rays of sunshine will take care of that problem soon enough.

As I was feeling ‘creative’ last week, I also decided to paint my finger nails in 5 different colours, it gives me a happy feeling every time I look at it and the comments have been nothing but positive, so I think I will try this again with a few new nail laquer coloursI’m trying to find at the moment.

So what do you think about my new haircut, do you like it? What haircut or colour would you like to try out this season?

With love, Nona

Outfit Post: Snow Navajo

The last month of the year is always the busiest for us somehow, what with all the work and the present shopping and thinking about what to eat (and in the case of Nona: cook;-) for Christmas and New Year, but as we still have a few outfit shoots here, I decided to honour Saturday night fever by posting a new one.

As temperatures are dropping and UGGS are brought out of their hiding place again, let’s do a cozy one today, shall we? Except I prefer Koolaburra nowadays, a very cool brand from California that makes snow and surf sheepskin boots with a lot of trendy details. On the pictures I wear a gray studded pair that can be worn with the shaft up or folded down. I combined the boots with my new black calf leather jogging pants by Joseph (too big, like most of my pants), a black asymmetrical cotton top with blue lurex decorations along the neckline by Boessert-Schorn (check them out, they’re fantastic) and a cotton intarsia cardigan with colourful Navajo designs by US brand Line. I love the cut: short at the back and longer at the front- the only thing missing is pockets!

As FFF visitors seem to love details about the accessories that Nona and I are wearing on our photos, here’s the downlow on my wrist jewelry: gold and titanium ‘Santos’ watch by Cartier, silver bracelet from Bali (wedding present), silver and leather bracelet (forgot the brand’s name; bought online) and a green leather friendship bracelet with tiny beads that Nona bought me in Cahors, France years ago and that refuses to fall off. Maybe I should shower more often 😉

Have a great weekend!

Love & life,

Outfit post: Out of Africa

I love ethnic prints of all kinds: batik, tie & dye, block print…bring it on I say! So when I heard that Antwerp designer Harvey Bouterse created a collection using African wax prints (made in Holland by Vlisco) I wrote him an email immediately, telling him that I had to have the parka coat. And guess what: I got the sample! I’m proudly wearing it here (admired by Dita Von Teese;-) and combined it with a patched up skinny jeans by Current/Elliott, a cashmere/cotton purple top by American Vintage, a pink tee by Topshop and my favorite suede booties by Think! Nona took the photos and she also made some close-ups of my silver rings. The one with ‘Chance’ on it is by Wouters & Hendrix, the turquoise/coral one is my Native American engagement ring (I have a thing for Native American jewelry, as can be seen in the current issue of Elle Belgium in photo nr 72 in the series of 100 must-haves of their favorite people in Belgium, natch), the silver one with Love, Life and Light is my wedding ring and the butterfly ring is one of the first presents from my husband. Do you also have emotional stories to tell about your rings?

Love & Light,

Outfit Post: Ab Fab or too much of a good thing?

Preparing outfit posts must rank among the most fun things  to do ever- and that starts with selecting the outfits to be photographed.

The last time Nona and I did this I went overboard one or twice and at first I didn’t want to show this series of pictures, but then I figured it must be fun to watch people making outfit mistakes as well, so here you go!

Separately, the items work perfectly well but worn all together the outfit makes me think of the kind of stuff actress Jennifer Saunders used to wear in the brilliant TV series ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ (can’t wait for the next series, btw): too much of a good thing. I look like a demented rapper, especially with the sunglasses.

All items are by Jeremy Scott for Adidas Originals, the sunglasses are by Linda Farrow (also designed by Jeremy Scott), the woolly hat is by Christophe Coppens for JBC. What do you think? Hit or miss?

Love & light,

OUTFIT POST – Comfort zone

7 Nov

Dear readers,

The last couple of weeks have been quite hectic at work: I helped launch the DAA by JBC collection in Central Station (Antwerp) and guided a 3-day press trip to Copenhagen for Reebok CrossFit, while also helping organize our halfannual pressdays, which take off next week on Wednesday…

The unfortunate consequence of this was that I was not able to do as many blogposts as I am used to, for which I am very sorry…

But luckily my co-blogger and CEO of DAA Ninette Murk was able to hold up the fort during her own verybusy schedule, launching the DAA by JBC collection last week and following up on her 3 international students who helped organize the launch event.I hope you enjoyed her posts as much as I do!

A few weeks ago, my mother and I figured we needed a plan to keep the blog going during this busy period and we planned in a fun day to do some outfit shoots at her home. I arrived with a few suitcases filled with clothes, and we managed to get no less than 5 outfit posts each, which we’ll be sharing with you the next couple of weeks. These are outfits which we have worn for the last couple of weeks but didn’t have the chance to shoot it at the day of wearing, because of a lack of time or light, now it’s getting dark before getting back home at night.

My first outfit was the outfit I was wearing at arrival on the day of the outfitshoot… A very comfortable purple wool sweater with a fake fur hood from PlusMinus, which I bought very recently at a stocksale from a local boardshop. This hot baby is coming with me on my next snowboard trip to Switzerland, but in the meanwhile is a perfect match for my lazy sundays, when watching series from the comfort of my couch. I combined it with my favorite boyfriend jeans from ONLY and my sneakers from Sacha.

What do you like to wear on a lazy Sunday? Do you like my sweater?

With love, Nona
