Outfit of the day : My Zalando shopping spree

10 Jul

Dear readers,

It’s been pretty quiet at FlemishFashionFreaks’ headquarters recently shopping-wise, as I am still looking for a new job, which implies trying not to go crazy in the shopping department for the last 6 months (quite a challenge as you can surely imagine).

But as sales were fastly approaching, I decided to give in to the urge just for once and visit Zalando for some online madness… And mad it was! So many different brands means many MANY hours spent behind this very computer to decide which outfit I wanted to promote to my absolute favorite summer outfit.

I instantly fell in love with a beautiful Grecian-inspired chiffon dress (shop here) from the brand Louche which was a novelty to me. Keeping an eye on the brand in the future as they had many fashionable items to my liking.

Next I searched for a cool pair of sandals to match the dress… Luckily for me (and my big shoe size 42) Zalando has many available options for us ‘plus sized’ girls. My heart skipped a beat when I found this floral pair of Anna Field sandals with white and green tones (find them via this link). They fit perfectly and are a dream to walk on… That’s why I decided to post-order the same item in blue so I can change accordingly to my outfit of the day.

I’m not a big fan of jewellry as I’m always getting stuck to everything with them (can you believe I never even had my ears pierced for this exact reason?!) but every now and then I like to brighten up a simple dress or top with a cool statement necklace, often with a referral to animals.  The leopard necklace from Me& Zena fit the description perfectly and was a sure winner to complete my easy-going summer look.

Do you like my new summer outfit? What is your ideal outfit for the summer?

Outfit post – SPRING TIME

14 Apr

Dear readers,

it’s so good to be back on the blog after our winter hibernation, which was primarily caused by my new busy job I started last Fall and an unfortunate illness which struck me down for about a month.

But -just as the first flowers start to blossom and the birds start to sing- I thought it was time to present you with some brand new outfit posts  & exciting new seasonal previews again, starting from today.

I personally always get a sort of subconcious need to buy new shoes when I spot the first signs of spring… The (shopping) result? Already 3 pairs of new summer shoes in the last month (mostly wedges, this really is a must-have this season, comfortable and elegant all at once). … Probably this is not the end of my spring madness, as the highsummer collections are still to hit the shops in a few weeks.. Uhhh owwww!

For pictures of the new shoes you’ll still have to have a bit of patience (Yes, I know, I am such a tease), but I do have something else to show you : my brand new haircut and colour !

Parka – ONLY / Printed blouse – Steps / Mint green tracktop – H&M / Blue skinny – ONLY / Clutch – Pieces / Fascinator hairband – Accessorize / Ballerinas – Diesel

Nail colours (fromleft to right) :

Rimmel – Blue my mind / Estée Lauder – C6 Fuchsia / O.P.I. – Green -wich Village / Rimmel – Sky High / O.P.I. – Need Sunglasses?

I decided to loose about 10 to 15 cms of my hair, as I thought the time was right for a shorter more edgy look. The hair colour is a very bright copper tint, normally the colour is a bit more dark.

The flip side of the new colour is that I now look a bit paler than I was before, but the first serious rays of sunshine will take care of that problem soon enough.

As I was feeling ‘creative’ last week, I also decided to paint my finger nails in 5 different colours, it gives me a happy feeling every time I look at it and the comments have been nothing but positive, so I think I will try this again with a few new nail laquer coloursI’m trying to find at the moment.

So what do you think about my new haircut, do you like it? What haircut or colour would you like to try out this season?

OUTFIT POST – A short day at the office

26 Sep

Dear readers,

I’ve been unwillingly absent from the blog the last couple of days due to some serious computer issues, which have now been finally solved after a week-end of internet abstinence (ow , how it hurts when you want something but can’t due to higher forces)!

To make it up to you, I’ve saved up some nice topics and events to post about during the week to come. Some outfit posts, an event report from Pinko’s Trunk Show (Wednesday) and ofcourse our new weekly column ‘Urge to Splurge Tuesdays’! Curious what we’ve been lusting for the last couple of days? You can read all about it tomorrow, so be sure to come now, ya hear? 😉

For today, I wanted to share an outfit I wore last week to work. As I falsely thought summer was already gone, I decided to wear thights under my belted short from Zara. The yellow ribbon-tie chiffon top from River Island is quickly becoming a new classic in my wardrobe, when in doubt of what to wear, the yellow top with some shorts, jeans or skirt is always the answer! The darkblue jersey vest from Vila dresses up the outfit and the structured shoulders give it that little extra zing. To my opinion, it’s those small details which make the difference and keep it interesting to look at. The blue suede tote is a new gem I bought in St Tropez last month while on holiday. The brown leather boots are from Brantano.

Do you like my outfit?

On another topic :What are you wearing for those last summerdays the weatherman is promising us? I’m still undecided, as I’ve bought many summer items the last couple of weeks… Maybe I should consider a warm holiday this Christmas to put those clothes to use when it gets colder here, my (already back to pale) face could surely do with some extra sunny sessions somewhere on a tropical island. 😀

OUTFIT POST – I’m a MANIAC on the (work)floor!

5 Sep

Dear readers,

As of today I can officially call myself a Media Maniac! I love my new job at this PR agency and hope many exciting new things will happen while working there!

Before falling into a deep sleep after my succesful first day at work , I wanted to share a few outfit pictures with what I wore today.

I decided to go for a comfortable outfit that resists all the challenges nature threw at us today: one minute the sun was shining, the next one rain started pouring down, then sun again… What the flying heck?!?

For this occasion my boyfriend jeans with a long blue blazer and extra scarf/sweater (hidden in the purse) were the perfect match to counter this mumbo jumbo weather.

I’m also looking very much forward to visit the hairdressers this week-end (fiiinally after months of ‘sun-kissed hair’, let’s call it that) as well as the European Arrow launch next Thursday…

Now off to bed, as I am really beat after such an intense day, in order to be ready for more tomorrow!

With love, Nona

As you can see, the cat wanted to be in the picture too! Maybe she just really missed me after being used to seeing me during the (work)day. Either way, she is such a cutie, I missed her too ;-D

Blazer – H&M

Top – Mango

Jeans – ONLY

Belt – Vintage

Bracelets – Accessorize and local market

Outfit post – A hot day in Antwerp

4 Sep

Dear readers,

Today is my last day as an unemployed woman (meaning I’m very busy selecting an outfit for my first day on the job- tips are welcome!)

To say the least I am very excited to be able to start again in the field of PR and Marketing! The last 4 months have been nice, sleeping in and doing what I want when I wanted to, but some stability is also necessary before I stay on holiday-mode forever!

That’s also the main reason why unfortunately I don’t have a lot of time to blog today, but I still wanted to share some outfit pics from my shopping trip to Forever 21 (Antwerp), hope you enjoy them! As temperatures rocketed above 30 degrees Celsius, I chose to wear a colourful outfit in light fabrics.

Yellow top – River Island

Flower shorts  (with belt) – New Look

Straw hat – Local market in St Tropez

Bracelets – Local market in Port Grimaud

Leather sandals – La Bottega

For the FFF followers amongst you, you might recognize two of the items from my outfit as a few of my recently bought gems at River Island and New Look, which I also wore to the River Island XMAS preview a few weeks ago (read all about it here).

I’m so in love with these New Look flower shorts which I can continue wearing during autumn (you need to add a panty or long socks ofcourse) aswell as the yellow ribbon tie shirt from River Island, which will also be a style staple for me next season!

Do you like my outfit? What do you wear on such a hot day?

OUTFIT POST – Letting out my inner geek

22 Jul

Dear readers,

After more than a week of  ‘radio silence on Flemish Fashion Freaks due to no internet acces while on holiday, I finally got back to the real world (WITH my precious internet that is) to put up a post on my new outfit I wore a few days ago. .. Just in time me thinks as I started to show rehab symptons while away, in the form of harassing non-suspecting hotel and restaurant owners to let me use their computer/internet.

As I’m normally more the bohemian or rock chick type of dresser, I wanted to try something else this time, something completely new to me, and as I will begin working again at the start of September, an office-proof outfit that’s still hip and happening seemed the only valid option to go for right now.

I decided to go for the Geek Chic look that has been rocking the streets and magazines for quite some time , as this way I could finally put my cool animalprint glasses from Vans to good use ! I combined it with my longsleeved denim shirt to add a little edge to the mix, to prevent the outfit from becoming TOO goody-goody-two-shoes.

Is this a trend you like or hate? Please do not hesitate to share your opinion with us, as we’re very curious about what you think!

Now, enough chit-chatter, I hope you like the outfit pix!  Sorry for the bad quality of some photos:  I was forced to take them inside as the weather was not on my side during the shoot (read: thunderstorms and the occasional lightening flash).

With love, Nona

Sneak peek : outfit for F21 party AND new hair colour

29 Jun

Tonight there will be an exclusive party I’ve been looking forward to for a while now: the Forever 21 launch!

Somewhere this summer the cool and affordable high street brand F21 will open their first 2 shops in Belgium (Antwerp & Brussels), but tonight it’s party time already to really kick off the summer in a good way!

The entire Belgian blogosphere has been invited to this event, so I’m really looking forward to meet them tonight and check out their beautiful outfits IRL! I have already packed my camera (that’s too big for my clutch, dagnabbit) to shoot some of my personal favourites and put them online later this week, hopefully tomorrow if I’m still alive and kicking 😉

Ofcourse there was also the tough decision: what outfit will I be wearing tonight? I’ve chosen for my current favourite green print dress from Lipsy London, which I will combine with a blazer (still not sure which colour though, black or seablue) and the shoes I broke my ban for (see previous outfit post with the shoes here). Accessories are still undecided but hey I still have some time left before tonight, right?

Here’s already a glimpse of the dress. At the same time you also get an exclusive preview of my new haircolour, which I am still getting adjusted to at the moment. Before it was more the copper kind of red, while now it’s much darker (hence my skin suddenly looks paler)…

Please do not pay attention to the clutter in the bathroom, it was the best place to shoot this myself during yesterday’s storm… Setting priorities straight, I first chose my outfit, shot it and THEN cleaned the bathroom.

I hope you like the outfit! Be sure to check out the report of the F21 later this week, withs lots of pictures of the new styles and the outfits the guest were wearing!

FFF got featured in Het Nieuwsblad – FESTIVALTREND. Stijlvol met een leren jasje

24 Jun

Great news and a new milestone for our blog today!

Flemish Fashion Freaks got featured for the very first time in an outfit article by the online version of the Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad…WHOOP WHOOP !

They asked me for some tips for festival wear plus a special composed outfit, which I was very willing to share as I’ve had already more than a decade of festival-experience by now, meaning I’ve encountered the ocassional mistakes every new festival go-er encounters in his/her life,  f.e. wearing a jumpsuit or loose slippers to a festival (never doing that one again I can tell ya!)…

You can check out our FFF feature  by clicking the link below.

Het Nieuwsblad – FESTIVALTREND. Stijlvol met een leren jasje.

BTW, keep a close eye on our blog, as I will also upload a new festival-related article later today, which could be very interesting for those attending (or wanting to) Werchter next week!

OUTFIT POST – Breaking the ban

13 Jun

I’ve been a real naughty girl yesterday… I promised myself I wouldn’t buy any fashion items anymore for as long as possible as I a m trying to save up some money for a holiday this summer. Going strong already for more than a month, I was quite satisfied with my accomplishment/fashion ban, that was until my boyfriend asked me to join him to  a DIY store to get some garden equipment. Not realizing yet what was hanging above my head, I took on the journey with him and drove to our local Hubo store.

Once arrived at the location, I noticed that there was a shop that was of quite some more interest to me, Siesta, a road store that sells shoes and clothes…. uuuhmm, say what? It doesn’t hurt to just take a sneak peek before the sales take off on the 1st of July, right? As I whirlwinded into Siesta, I left my boyfriend to do the garden shopping by himself, as I am not really the plant enthousiastic or connaisseur to be honest and I felt my time would be better spent in there, instead of braving the Sunday hords of DIY fanatics Belgium is famous for….

Big mistake! Ofcourse I instantly fell in love with a pair of studded shoes, which were still available in my size ( a not so easy 42)… WHYYYYY, faith, must you tease me like this!? I decided not to JUMP on the opportunity immediately and await my boyfriend’s arrival to let him decide whether he liked the shoes and if I should go for it…

End balance? I am now the proud owner of a new pair of wonderful sparkly studded shoes and on the other hand also have a serious conscience issue I am unsuccesfully trying to ignore… So far for my ban, I guess! Must start over, back to start, you cannot pass the bank, to say it in Monopoly terms…

Not to leave you lusting any longer, here are some pictures of my new sweetie pies, they clearly deserve some ‘airtime’ as they were the ones responsible for the ban being broken 😉 Hope you like the shoes and the outfit created around them!

Outfitpost – Heading somewhere?

30 May

Yesterday I went to Leuven to help a friend move house. Afterwards we went for some lunch and cocktails downtown to celebrate her new place.

For this ocassion I needed an outfit that was good to go for cocktails and at the same time was pratical enough to help her move all her stuff up and down a lot of winding stairs… Practical flat sandals were a keyfactor to make this mission sucessfull, so I opted for some nice ethnical sandals from New Look…

Leather jacket- Object / Dress – Mango / Headband- H&M / Owl necklace – Pieces / Sandals – New Look / Bag – Balenciaga

During the move I was thinking about my nice fellow bloggers who were giving it their all at the Stiletto Run in Hasselt, in order to win a year’s supply of free New Look shoes: what would they be wearing, who would win?

Even though I couldn’t be there IRL, I was still excited to read about it on the fashion blogs when I got home. I browsed the twitter and blogaccounts and soon found out that the event was a blast, nobody got hurt and everybody lived happily ever after, enjoying a cocktail in the centre of Hasselt.

If you want to read more about it, you can visit the great fashion blogs of  Brunetteblogging , Krizia Shark Attack or  Wood and Rags for a report on the Stiletto Run!

Congratulations to Hanan from FashionFabrice who won the 300m bloggers’ run! I am very proud of the way she can run in heels so fast and still look effortlessly cool! A big congrats goes out to all bloggers in fact who risked their lives and pretty shoes in order to show the world what they’re made off! I couldn’t have done it myself to be honest!

Next time I’ll be there to cheer you all on!

With love, Nona
